DXB’s first steps to a full bilingual FIDS

Most invidis readers are well aware how much we advocate bilingual FIDS concepts at Middle East airports. Qatar Airways home airport Doha has set standards in FIDS screen design. Dubai international is now in the process of catching up.

A relatively new flight information board in terminal 3 features now a full bilingual information offering. Trade visitors of last year’s Gitex might remember a similar pilot installation on the show floor.

Now Emirates passengers – regardless of Arabic or English literacy – are now able to catch all relevant flight departure and gate information simultaneously. The 5×5 video-wall sports very large video wall displays and is embedded in Dubai airports current CI.

The departure board complements the information counter with a similar white and blue color concept and massive use of digital signage elements (displays, LED and LED lighting). Even DXB abstain from logos or airline tail fins, its not relevant as Emirates and QF are the main user of the terminal.

It will be interesting to see how the FIDS concept will be updated in the new concourse / terminal 4 to be opened beginning of next year.
