LG fulfils the region’s desire for video walls

Video Walls fulfil the Gulf’s desire for impressive visual solutions. Demand for video wall displays is the highest in the MENA region - no other region in the world records a higher market share of thin-bezel professional displays. LG’s curved 0,9 mm video wall was the star of Gitex 2015. But the Korean's presented much more in Dubai this year.

The race for the slimmest bezel of a video wall display continues and LG is leading the pack currently. With 0.8 or 1.9mm bezel-to-bezel LG offers the slimmest video wall solution available. While LG showed the first samples at Infocomm Orlando, Gitex was the launch for the final product. An impressive 10×3 curved wall dominated the booth of LG in Dubai in the past week.

While the video wall – most likely the largest at this year’s show – was impressive, invidis liked some smaller solutions presented by LG. For example another first – a 86” stretched display cut out of a 110” panel. The slim display solutions features four times Full-HD solution and is great for retail and museum installations. We see more potential for portrait use cases than landscape.

In the back of the booth LG presented a wide range of WebOS displays. One installation included a retail installation of Turk Telekom. The Turkish telecommunication provider developed a own WebOS software solution to deliver content to hundreds of retail outlets across Turkey. All other WebOS displays were powered by OneLan. The UK digital signage software company is one of leaders in WebOS based digital signage in Europe.

A social media kiosk system showed a smart use case of bringing twitter, facebook or Instagram to the retail floor. Visitors can take selfies and post them straight on LGs or their own social media accounts.

LG holds a considerable market share in the GCC compared to Europe or North America. The Korean manufactures has been quite successful in bringing video wall and other digital signage solutions to systems integrators around the Gulf.

A very promising product type will be launched by LG in the near future. OLED based professional displays have the potential for a game changer – hopefully we will see them in 2016. First prototypes shown to selected industry experts across EMEA have sparked great interest. OLED technology – already available for consumer TVs – enables display manufactures to design for example paper thin double-sided displays. Or curved displays to wrap around columns.
