OVAB Europe Digital Signage Business Climate Index

European outlook puts pressure on the DBCI in DACH

Since the last DBCI survey in March/April the Digital Signage Business Climate Index has decreased slightly.

Between March/April and May/June the Digital Signage Business Climate Index in DACH decreased from 70,10 points down to 60,90 points. Nevertheless the DBCI in Austria increased.

One reason for the decline is the general economic development in Europe. Although the GDP in Germany in the first quarter of 2014 increased up to 0,8% compared to the same period of the previouse year, the results in the other European countries are behind the expectations. In a longer term this could also concern the German export dependent economy. ZEW president Prof. Dr. Clemens Fuest thinks: “Germany cannot keep up with the growth rate.”

This stands quite in contrast to the display providers, of those 87% said their business is doing well, which is reflected in the display sales which are up by 8% in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same period in the previous year.

Moreover the digital signage market has seen an increasing amount of tenders, which means a good business climate for integrators.

It particularly goes well for the software providers. 95% of them rated their business as “good”. The Digital-out-of-Home industry sees the business rather conservative, as 40% of all polled companies have answered “neutral”. Here the increase in gross revenues in the first quarter of 2014 could not keep up with the expectations of the market participants.
