Be amazed - more Glamour for Digital Signage

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder or can be supported by a smart mirror display. Panasonic showcased an interactive mirror as part of a beauty showcase at Gitex. Touching up the make-up or LED lighting based navigation were two of four innovations presented by Panasonic Business.

Panasonic Business showcased some notable innovations at this year’s Gitex. The Japanese electronics expert is now clustering B2B solutions under the new Panasonic Business brand. Highlight and most popular solution with visitors was an interactive mirror. The personal professional health and beauty advisor offers skin diagnose and make-up simulation / navigation function as well as standard digital signage features. The showcase was always busy with a line of visitors waiting to brush up for glamour.

The second highlight for invidis was Panasonic Light ID. Unfortunately stayed thre great solution hidden for most passersby’s. Panasonic developed a LED light based solution transmitting a unique ID. A dedicated app on a mobile phone detects the ID and displays the relevant information. This simple technology enables for example retailer to offer additional information to product categories or indoor navigation. The big advantage – additional hardware is not necessary. Just replacing the existing lighting solution with Panasonic smart LED transforms a retail outlet into a smart and modern shopping experience. We have seen a similar solution at Philips Lighting Euroshop booth in 2014. But definitely a new smart solution for retail and other vertical markets.

In the past years Panasonic had a challenging time adapting to the LCD/LED demand. The new product portfolio including a dedicated SoC line-up and especially the build-up of a digital signage eco-system beyond classical AV-partner seems to be the right way. It remains to be seen how Panasonic can grow in a second tier market behind Samsung. LG and NEC.
